2 useful X-Terminal tips for N900 users

6 April 2011Entry by

For those who uses the X-Terminal alot, there is actually a few tips you could use to speed up your work on this powerful tool included in your N900. Well it is the only utility provided in the N900 that can do system shell editing and stuffs like these.

1. Using the Tab button

Yes that is actually a very useful button to use when typing long directories. It would help you to autocomplete the rest of the directory path for you. for example to type /home/user/MyDocs, you can use this as short-cut:

/h then press TAB then it would complete /home for you and so on

But if there were to be 2 or more directories with the same starting letters, it would list down for you possible directories to type.

2.SSH into your N900 (for advanced users)

Hate working with long directories and commands with the small keyboard on your N900? Well you could always SSH into your phone and type comfortably with your desktop keyboard. Here is a preview on what I always do when needed to type long commands.

NOTE: It might not be that responsive compared to typing directly on the N900 itself.

Well so there you have it. If you readers have any tips and guides, feel free to drop a comment. Till next time
