It has come to my attention that users have been posting problems which could be fixed simply by updating there firmware, But not everyone knows if they have the latest firmware or not. im going to show you how to update your firmware and check which version your using

relatively frequent firmware updates are expected. Fortunately, the N900 is more flexible where OS updates are concerned than any other handset on the market today. In this guide, i will show you the four different ways to update your N900's software.

Always backup all of the data on your device before attempting an update. It is also recommended that you connect your handset to a power source prior to performing any updates.

TO CHECK WHICH FIRMWARE VERSION YOU HAVE INSTALLED

From the phone's home screen key in *#0000#

Over the Air (OTA) Update

   1. Device manager
   2. Update
   3. Select Maemo from the list

Update via a Windows PC

   1. Download and install the Nokia Software Updater
   2. Connect your N900 to your PC with the supplied USB cable
   3. Open the Nokia Software Updater application
   4. Follow the on-screen prompts to update your device

Update via a Mac

   1. Download the 770Flasher tool
   2. Download the latest available N900 firmware image
   3. Turn the N900 off
   4. Connect the N900 to your computer via USB cable (with the device turned off)
   5. Run the 770Flasher application
   6. Drag the firmware you downloaded in step 2 to the 770Flasher application (you will get an error regarding a USB device not being found, ignore it)
   7. Turn the phone on
   8. The update process will now begin automatically once the N900 boots
   9. You are safe to disconnect your phone from the computer when you see the normal desktop reappear on the N900 display

Update via a Linux PC

   1. Download and extract the Linux Flasher tool
   2. Download the latest available N900 firmware image
   3. Turn the N900 off
   4. Connect the phone to your computer via USB cable (with the device turned off)
   5. Open a Terminal window and run 'sudo ./flasher-3.5 -F -f -R' (you will get an error regarding a USB device not being found, ignore it)
   6. Turn the phone on
   7. The update process will now begin automatically once the N900 boots
   8. You are safe to disconnect your phone from the computer when you see the normal desktop reappear on the N900 display

Hello All
Recent upgrade 3.2010.02-8 is not available "over the air" to install 3.2010.02-8 you have to connect to Nokia PC Suite and then do the upgrade through "UPDATE PHONE SOFTWARE".

I have already install this update the day it came out and i live in UK.

During App Manager update it showed me update available n i have to connect to PC to install it. Try it will work for you aswell.

Hi

Funny this! I flashed my n900 with the OFFICIAL NOKIA emmc and PR1.2 but my version has a LOT of missing files!!! (A LOT of software wont update due to missing libs!!) Checked the checksum, all ok. REFLASHED it, STILL the same. This is putting me off the n900 as nokia SHOULD release the same version for OTA and FLASH!!!

Ive flashed my n900 with PR1.2 3 times and still the same!! I even tried to flash the older version so I could do OTA BUT it wouldnt boot up!!!! WTF is going on with this??? Why is the flash image not the same as OTA?

I assume that flashing the emmc and PR1.2 SHOULD be the same as OTA upgrade? It isnt, its missing some essential libs! NICE ONE NOKIA!!!! Now I cant flash back to PR1.1.1.1!!

Im seriously thinking of ditching this phone now!! WHY CANT NOKIA JUST GET IT RIGHT?Huh They messed up with the n97,n97-mini, etc. I thought Meamo would be better, guess not!!! Maybe I should switch to Android or the iphone!! At least they WORK!!!!

It sickens me to say it BUT windows mobile works better than this!! A FLASH IMAGE SHOULD CONTAIN ALL THE LIBS REQUIRED TO RUN THE PR1.2 APPS!!!  Well done to nokia and meamo for pissing me off and making me want to swap back to sony!!! WANKERS - All I can say!!

Avoid updating via pc, use your wi-fi or pocket data to Update the firmware! That was it is risk free and you can save a lot of time too.
