try to open the file you want as a ring tone, then check your option to "use as ringtone" or "assign to contact"

hi same prob here  when i click on the mp3 file it goes straight to play and i cannot assign it to contact tried editing contact but no option there either ...... am i missing something here  any advice will be greatly appreciated |

you know... i think this may just be a little mis-hap by the developers. hopefully, a firmware update can fix this sometime soon |

Menu >>>Settings >>>Profiles >>> (In Profiles scroll down and you will see the word Ring tone. Click on this and you will get a menu like the one in the image below)  ^ You will see a list of the default ringtones that come with the phone and if you look to the right you will see a More button this will take you to all the music you have added to the phone |

Yes, I too have tried to assign certain ring tones to my contacts. No solution on that yet?
I just got my phone two weeks ago....... I see most of these post are of Dec09/ Jan10.
It's such a great phone with all the HD space, yet very poor apps and support?

No solution to this rather basic problem/feature - but I've heard that something regarding this is cooking in the Maemo-community.

just be sure to open the file you are going to want since a ring tone, then check the possibility to "use because ringtone" or "designate to contact"
