I'm due for my upgrade on the 28th but after reading so much about the n900 i'm now not sure what to do . What with maemo 6 and MeeGo on the horizon i wonder if the n900 will be just a flash in the pan ?Is it going to be left behind by developers ? i got my n96 18 months ago and new right away that it was not what i was looking for, but after about a month or 2 after i got n96 the n97 came on the go and i was sick i didn't know about it. I now get the feeling it could all happen again with the n900 and i was so looking forward to getting one..
I know we don't have crystal balls but and views on this ?? Will the N900 be compatible with MeeGo or maemo 6 ? or should i ride the storm and wait to see what happens !!
thank you

Well even though your post is old, I will answer it for anyone who might be thinking about the phone now...

in short, no don't get the phone. The n900 was a big purchase for me - something I don't do but maybe once a year in a half. Over all the n900 was a very clunky phone compareds to any other modern smart phone. The device operated poorly as a phone. My old n95 could run circles around the n900 as far as it operating as a phone and a basic PIM organizer. The battery life on the n900 is so horrible that I can't even last one day with the device - making it the most inpracticle phone I have ever owned. As far comparing the n900 to other smartphones, the n900 is no where as polished and ready for the mass market and was released too early befor the OS was ready. IF that was the only thing wrong with it I could live with it as the N900 truely more of a pocket limux computer than a phone and me being a geek I could deal with it. But the final blow for me was when Nokia decided to dump the Maemo operating system in favor of MeeGo and than announced that there would not be an offcial release of the MeeGo OS for the N900 when the OS is complete - thus basically screwimg the future and all users who bought the N900. Of course there will be non-official releases from the user community, but nothing official from Nokia. So as much as I love my n900 i know it's days are limmited by developers and the user community - not to say that it is pretty much already dead in Nokia's eyes.

I've got a different opinion: I owned a N95 classic for three years, and then got an N900, and it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

The only thing I miss is real voice-guided nav, nothing else.

Don't get me wrong... I love the N900.. But there was room for improvement.. such as with MMS and Nokia's own PC Suite and OVI store issues. Still the N900 is a great device.. I just would of loved to see Nokia continue to develop the platform.
