Gossips about MeeGo and future of Nokia smartphones

27 June 2010Entry by

During last week you may have noticed many informations about Nokia changing smartphone platfrom from Symbian to MeeGo for good. But let’s take some facts under consideration first.

Only thing we know about upcoming Nokia smartphones with MeeGo on board is leaked video presenting Nokia N9 and some unconfirmed specifications. Only sure thing in all of this commotion is that Nokia is still working on MeeGo system, some of progress we can see in open-source projects related to this system, like Maemo 6/MeeGo UI Framework.

Among confirmed informations we have Nokia N8 and as far as I know it’s based on refreshed Symbian version with new interface and Qt-based applications available. I don’t think that releasing new device with Symbian packed with new features will be the last call of this platform.

In my humble opinion Symbian won’t vanish from Nokia’s offer any time soon, but we can hope for more move in MeeGo direction, first step is to be taken by (hopefully) upcoming Nokia N9. History of N900 and Maemo have already met few situations when speculation was crushed by reality, so let’s just wait for facts!
