N900 for photograpers – pyKake
While going through application catalogues once every few days I’ve found nice application for photographers that use something more than N900 built-in camera.
There is this thingy called pyKake, remote application for Canon, Nikon, Olympus and Pentax DSLRs. Since I have one I wanted to try if it really works. Some of you have probably taken some pictures using self timer but time left between pressing trigger and actual picture taken is not always enough. Remotes and wired triggers provided by camera manufacturers are usually expensive in comparison to their functionality and that’s where N900 comes into play. Thanks to pyKake we can use infrared emitter to emulate such controller and take pictures while standing in front of camera.
I’ve started with pictures of myself… well, nothing to be proud of but proves it really works. My flat doesn’t give much space but 4 meters of range is already proven to work without any problems and I think it can be extended by few more meters. There is also possibility to control presentation mode, plug camera to TV and show the pictures to friends or family while comfortably sitting with them on the sofa.
I think this is good thing for everyone having supported camera, for amateurs not to take pictures where everyone looks like they’re saying ‘faster, it will go off any second now!’ and for professionals to improve efficiency or replace original remote when it’s battery run out of power.
