N900 overclocked to 1 GHz

WARNING: Using processor frequency tweak may significantly shorten battery life and may be dangerous for your device!

When I was looking all around the web for interesting news on N900 I’ve found informations about tweaking it to use more processor power. If you are familiar with overclocking you should know that it is possible to gain few Hertz in order to speed up processor, but it comes with cost of power consumption, stability if the change is big enough, or even so called ‘Sudden Northwood Death Syndrome’ (literally processor’s death).

Conky on overclocked N900

By default N900 CPU is set to work with 600MHz maximum speed, but there is possibility to use more power, up to 1GHz after reflashing system kernel. Nevertheless most of experts advise not to make this change, since this device wasn’t designed was to run such high speeds. For now there are kernels for 700MHz, 750MHz, 800MHz, 825MHz available in PhoneReport guide along with flashing tutorial.

I admit, vision of having even faster N900 is really tempting, but it’s completely different case than plain PC for instance. When I power up my desktop computer I always know that I can replace only  the burned CPU with new one, with N900 I don’t have such possibility.
