Top 3 Nokia N900 Apps

Altough there aren’t so many official applications which are available in the Ovi Store or in the Maemo download section (not mentioned the countless programs, that come with the testing and the devel section), I have already established three of my favorite apps to my own personal list. I have written about them in earlier posts, so you can get more information about the programs by clicking the links. I decided to list useful applications in my point of view, such I am using for my everyday job.
On the third place, I placed BlueMaemo. Presentations can be controlled directly from your N900, which is the essential task I use it for, and makes it really a good alternative to the mac remote-control. And as a nice side-effect, people are very astonished about the way I am showing my content.
Second I choosed Evernote. I really don’t want to miss it anymore. It is not really a native application on the phone (it just opens in the browser, and I do not use it that way), but with the instant messaging plugin you can post your thoughts, ideas, photos and everthing else right to your Evernote account to edit the notes later on your desktop pc, mac, whatever, assumed you have installed the Evernote software on your working station. Just brilliant.
At least on place one, is the blogging app MaStory. This is really my number one favourite. I love to write my articles independent of where I am, and post them from everywhere. This app just works great and at that so simple to use. I have the full overview over my writings, publications or drafts, mediauploads and comments, categories and tags.
So tell me, which apps you like the most.

BlueMaemo on N900 To Remote Your Mac and PC

On one of my wanderings through the internet again, I found the BlueMaemo for Nokia N900 application. I read the short instruction, but didn’t really figured out, for what it’s good for. The instruction describes something like using your N900 as a wireless controller for the Playstation over the bluetooth connection. For I have no Playstation, I wondered, if I could connect to my Macbook through BlueMaemo.

I downloaded BlueMaemo from the Extras-Devel and installed it on my N900 through the application manager. Start the application, choose “Wait for connection” on the startscreen and go to the connection routine with your Mac, the same as I wrote about in my previous post, how to connect Nokia N900 to Macbook. But this time, choose “Every device” when it comes to this part. When the routine is finished, you should have an established connection to your Macbook, if not, just start the BlueMaemo application again, but this time tab on “Establish connection”. Choose your device from the list and confirm the connection. You are now connected!

BlueMaemo for Nokia N900 offers a lot of options to choose about. Try them out by yourself. Mouse or Keyboard, Gamepad or Presentation, all of them should work smoothly. Very impressive to remote the Mac with the N900, controlling the mousecursor, writing text with the keyboard, or do presentations. Control even your Media Center with the N900! It will work with your PC too, but I only have bluetooth on my Macbook. You will find further instructions here: also for connection with Windows and Linux.

Fact is, BlueMaemo can be a very useful app for business (f.e. presentations), homeuse (for Media Center as a remote-controller) and gamers. It really attracts interest, when it comes to a live show.

Emulator: Playing playstation with the Nokia N900 – BlueMaemo

I’m sure that most of us don’t have any doubt at this time about the power of the Nokia N900. Today, this idea gets even stronger. You’ll get blue with BlueMaemo.
Apparently, a developer called Valério Domingos worked through to get the Nokia N900 to work as a Play Station 3 controller. As impressive that this news may seem, it’s very cool but I don’t know about how useful really is. For those readers who would like to share the experience after trying this, their comment would be welcomed. Apart from that it seems to work really well, it is much like an emulator.
The trick here is an application called BlueMaemo. Its’ developers define it as: “BlueMaemo is a remote controller program for the Maemo-powered devices. With BlueMaemo you can turn your Maemo-powered device in a mixed Bluetooth keyboard-and-mouse device through the HID Bluetooth profile.” So is a Bluetooth emulator that allows the device to imitate other Bluetooth devices such as keyboards, mice, and gaming controllers as well. If you check out the video below, you would see how easy is to set it up. After turning on the N900’s Bluetooth and the BlueMaemo app, you have to look for an option on the PS3 menu that allows you to manage Bluetooth devices. Then you start scanning for the Bluetooth device (the N900) and when the PS3 find it, you entry the access code on the TV screen on the N900 and it’s done! You select that you want to use the controller on the N900 and it would look like this:

So enjoy your new exotic PS3 controller.
