News from Maemo world – Flash tweaks, protection, updates

Maemo world, as long as N900 develops in many places, with many users writing, commenting and posting. Also all of you – readers take a part in society motion every day.
Flash version – how come does it matter?

Recently I’ve found pretty good analysis of Flash versioning and small inconsistency that makes Flash plugin vulnerable to version cheating. That’s why I feel more comfortable with testing Tweak Flash plugin version application, which may be helpful for everyone that wish to have Flash 10 enabled on N900.
Damage protection – microUSB port
Some poeople reported that microUSB port in N900 just fell out. Well, practically it shouldn’t just fall out, the reason is that in comparison to soldering technique used, the charger plug is big enough to act as lever and give moment of force big enough… but without physical babbling, you need to be careful when using charger and USB cable. Nokia N900 may be marvellous in many ways but still it’s NOT rugged phone for military and we should handle it with care. So please be careful!
Prepare for application updates
Updates are coming in many applications, sometimes there are problems with updating some of them. If you’ve experienced such situation there is a way I’ve found and use recently.

Check if you really use the application, if not, just remove it. If there is a problem with removing, place a comment in Q&A section, I’ll find a solution.
If you still need the application I prefer method remove-clean-install, so:

uninstall the application (if there is a problem check point 1.)
open console, gain root access and run apt-get autoremove command
install application again and enjoy

I hope this will help you now or in the future. If you have any questions you can always ask by commenting

Flash Player 10.1 on Nokia N900!

Check out our new page Funny LOL Pictures (click here) - it brings you daily funny pictures that will make you LOL!
The Nokia N900 specs that you would find on most of the web site and even on our post about this subject, probably mentions one of the most interesting features of the Nokia N900, the ability of running Flash Player 9.4, giving to the phone the power to open almost every web site. A few post ago, we justify that almost due to the bad news about the phone not being able to run the iPlayer from the BBC web page.
New Version of Flash Player

Nevertheless we got some interesting news. On the Adobe MAX 2009, the Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch showed the new version of the Flash Player (v10.1) running on smartphones, netbooks and the of course, the Nokia N900. So with this new notice, the word almost gets thinner!
Video Running the Flash Player 10.1

Here you have the video where it´s showed the Flash Player 10.1 running on the N900. That would be the first minute. But if you have time, check out the rest of the video where it´s showed the upgrades made on the Flash Player.

Not everything is possible on the Nokia N900 yet

Captious title, Isn´t it? That´s because recently a video made by Mobile Developer TV showed streaming video on the Nokia N900. Specifically, the BBC iPlayer which allows you from the BBC web page to see most of their programs runs on Flash Player (streaming mode). It uses Flash Player 9, so the Nokia N900 with his Flash Player 9.4 shouldn’t have any problem with it, but unfortunately it has.
The reason of this problem it´s not clear yet, because something like this happened on Game Consoles like the Nintendo Wii. When not having the console updated, gamers were allowed to use the BBC iPlayer running on the Flash Player 7 which by that upgrade was the only one that the console had it. But, when the gamers updated the console and by this updating they where upgrading the Flash Player 7 up to Flash Player 9 (Actually, to Flash Lite 3.1  which allows to run Flash Player 8 and partial Flash Player 9 web pages), the BBC iPlayer stopped working.
So the solution would be to wait for the BBC Developers to work on the BBC iPlayer version for our Nokia N900, it shouldn´t been this way, but it´s. Like on other mobile phones such as the iPhone, where the BBC iPlayer runs very nice due to the BBC developer make it work because of the increasing demand of the service.
Here I left you two video, the first one about this issue on the Nokia N900 and the last one on the iPhone.
