Remember to put the port in the IP. Tipically, the port is 5900 and beyond (5901, 5902, ...). You can see which port is the VNC server using in their log (/var/log...).
So you have to put:
IP:Port
Example:
192.168.1.35:5901

Hi, VNCviewer can also be used from "outside" your network. Please have a look at this detailed instructions: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=43850&highlight=vnc+viewer. Thank you,

If you are in a home network you will probably have two IP addresses. One is the network address of your own network, like 168.192.1.X, or something starting with 10.X.X.X, and then there is the IP address you get from your provider which you get from sites like: http://www.whatsmyip.org/. Use the networkaddress of your own network to connect from inside. The password will be required after the login to the server.
