Xournal

30 August 2010Entry by

Meet Xournal, another type of a writer but its only problem is that it is a prototype like so not everything is present unfortunately.

It is an application for note-taking, it keeps a journal using a stylus and you can sketch with it but of course, it can also be used to add notations to PDF files.

I am sure that you noticed that Xournal does have similarity to other programs developed for Linux such as Jarnal, Gournal and Windows Journal.

Xournal is compatible with Maemo 4 (OS2008) which is running on the Nokia N800 and the Nokia N810 Internet Tablets including Maemo 5 which of course is being used on the Nokia N900.

XML-based format(similar to SVG) is used to save documents made which is then automatically compressed to gzip. Xournal is a open format based on compressed SVG’s so it makes it easier to export documents from an external source such as GIMP, Inkscape and Adobe Photoshop.

A pen which allows five levels of thickness with a changeable colour, an eraser which can delete everything in its radius of operation, a highlighter which act as a semitransparent pen, a text tool that allows an insert of basic blocks and a shape recognizer which can be used alongside a pen to detect a shape and replace it with a clean version can all be found on the Xournal bar at the bottom.
