Talking to Nokia N900 looks pretty normal, it’s phone by the way, but what about your N900 talking to you? When you download propper application it’s also pretty normal. Some time ago I’ve mentioned eSpeakCaller for Nokia N900 in one of articles to hear caller name, this time N900 gets ability to tell you current time using the same speech synthesizer with eSpeakTime.

I remember times, back at school, when this fancy digital watches came into play. They’ve had integrated calculators, coloured backlight and this small button that caused the watch to tell current time. Right then my hand was too small to suit such big piece o electronics (well, at least big for wrist watch). Now this feature came to device I already have, so why not to try.

After you install eSpeakTime a small daemon runs in background and it reacts when phone is locked. Normally when you press power button then you see ‘Swipe to unlock’ screen, when you press it once again now your N900 will tell you what’s the time.

I find it really amusing and functional in some situations. Imagine you wake up in the middle of the night and you want to check time. Sometimes vision is still blurry and you’re still too sleepy to figure out time from LED blinks (have a look on LED clock article), the best solution then is asking your Nokia N900 by double pressing power button!
